The famed French painter Edgar Degas (1834 – 1917), was best known for his masterpieces of course. But he was well known also because of his love for painting the walls of his studio, where he depicted ballet dancers in various striking poses. But we are no Degas to follow suit. Instead, we dress up the walls of our home with decorative wall panels.

But, what exactly are these decorative wall panels? These are beautiful panels that are used to cover the existing wall to disguise a wall that doesn’t look very appealing.

Of course, there is nothing quite new about it. Mahogany finished wall panels were regular features in most British manors at one time. It wasn’t quite the same in the United States however. In the US, most people were more in favor of faux wood panels that displayed knotty pine or ersatz oak veins. But the preferences have changed with time.

Contemporary decorative wall panels in continental America have left fake wood panels far behind and have reached a stage where you are likely to be mesmerized by something like three dimensional wall panels and such others that are fit for the modern times.

Types of Wall Panels and Their Usage

Starting from conventional designs to avant-garde motifs, today’s decorative wall panels are capable of changing your mood from one of despair to ultimate serenity and peace. While decorative fabric panels will lend you the right sense of calm in your bedroom, waterproof vinyl panels depicting bamboo or the jungle vista might be appropriate for your bathroom. However, for those who are more adventurous in making their selection, the Water and Steam themed panel may be ideal. These fabulous wall panels carry a water theme all over your walls, creating a kind of marine effect that can evoke a sauna sensation, without of course the real thing.

Benefits of Using Decorative Panels

People use wall panels for various reasons. There are some rooms that look perpetually soggy, no matter whatever way you treat them. Using these panels, you can dramatically change that squelchy look. Imitation stone, make-believe crocodile leather and blue tinted glass wall panels can have a tremendous impact on the look and feel of a room which hitherto had been nothing but a dungeon. Do also consider the tin decorative wall panels. These cool silvery panels can change the roguish look of an anteroom into that of an elegant looking chamber almost overnight. These however, are not suitable for the bathroom or kitchen because of potential moisture problems.
